Bringing it home
The lactic was burning a bit after a day of constant attacks and breakaways. But Kato has to be the most fun road course I’ve ever done. I dare say it, but it’s more fun than the MTB courses here.
Motoji overdid it.
D and K lying in the gutter after a big effort.
What do you do when watching boring road races all day and need something to kill time? Dance!
Japan’s heatwave means sweating 24/7. And the lack of shade at some of these races means there’s no escape.
Nogu on the podium again!
Nogu icing down after a big sprint.
Actually, this alcohol-free beer was the dirtiest thing I’ve tasted in a while.
Japan’s coolest photographer, taking a day off from behind the lense for once.
Starting them young
Even the kiddies here are getting the technique down before doing the real thing. I big worry.
Just like a Toyota ad.
On the line
Away all race solo and caught on the last corner. Damn.
Or maybe it was just a plane.
A bit late
Gotta hate noticing a puncture on the start line.
The Maishima crit course is normally a drift track. Unfortunately there were a few riders drifting and sliding on the corners.
The shame of DNFing?
Slice n Dice
Ready to slice up some air with my deep dish carbon.
My regular recovery ride path goes pretty much under the Itami Airport runway. I still can’t get my head around how these massive things fly.
This is my secret spot for cooling down during this Japan heatwave.
New kids on the block
Some riders guys with flashy bikes on a Mukogawa cruise.
This guy used to be a beer-swilling smoko. Now he’s a fitness freak. Bike do change lives.
The Lupine Camp
The Lupine guys at Kato. They were overheating before the race (in this pic). You should’ve seen them afterwards!
Our much needed and rare shelter at Maishima, Osaka crits. Courtesy of Shuhei.
I tried to ride the uni-cycle. No chance.
Finally team mates, even if Nogu is retired.
Suma beach was quiet, apart from one moto police chase for some sea-side action.
A hard earned thirst
Ko-Chan and D were begging for sugary water after a couple of thousand metres of climbing.
Trek’s multi-level Suma concept store, with view of Suma beach.
OCLV on display.
Flames are back in it seems. Reminds me of the movie Greece.
Daigorou being a yuppy and enjoying real espresso at the Suma store.
