It feels like a lifetime ago I did any gym work, weights etc. But with a new found approach to this upcoming season, combined with hell cold Canberra weather, I’ve been drawn back into the gym for some specific strength work. More than for road cycling, the full body strength demands on your body are high and do require more than just work on the bike to last the distance in XC and marathon races.
My memory of weight training is primarily the soreness that comes with it. The weeks of riding with dead legs and hating every pedal stroke. Knowing what’s caused it is barely any consolation and pushing through the DOMS phase is tough. But I’ll give it a crack once again. Hopefully the benefits next summer outweigh (nice pun!) the drawbacks.
